Polyporus grows in native oak and beech forests near tree trunks. It is not very common in this country. Since it spoils very easily after harvest, it is not good as an edible mushroom.
Polyporus is mainly used for drainage, for water retention (edema).
Its dehydrating effect here is just as strong as that of dehydration tablets, but without excreting valuable potassium. This makes it a valuable mushroom in emphysema, pulmonary edema, and heart failure. Its intake leads to increased urinary and sodium excretion, resulting in relief of the heart.
Polyporus supports the lymph in the elimination of waste products. It improves the appearance of the skin due to its detoxifying effect, as well as the structure of the skin in case of allergic skin diseases.
In cases of joint swelling and abdominal dropsy, polyporus supports the lymph and has a draining effect.
The function of the lymphatic system is of particular importance in cancer, as increased amounts of toxins need to be transported out of the body. It inhibits metastasis via the lymphatic system and has anti-tumor properties in lung and liver cancer.
