Petra Remsing – veterinary practitioner
Pleurotus is an excellent edible mushroom, rich in vitamins of the B-complex including folic acid, vitamin C and D. It grows in nature on old tree stumps, trunks of deciduous trees as well as dead wood and belongs to the so-called white rot fungi.
Pleurotus is used in veterinary medicine mainly for diseases of the musculoskeletal system.
It relaxes muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this medicinal mushroom is used to relax the muscles of the lumbar spine. It promotes bone and cartilage formation and prevents bone decalcification.
Pleurotus promotes hematopoiesis and growth of young cells, including bone marrow. Numerous studies have demonstrated antiviral, antibacterial, antibiotic, antineoplastic, and anti-inflammatory properties in Pleurotus.
It also supports the growth of probiotic bacteria in the intestinal mucosa. The intestinal flora is rebuilt after antibiotic therapy or worming and the immune system located in the intestine is thus strengthened.
