Healthy sleep

January 23, 2021
Dr. Dorothee Bös et al.

More and more people today are periodically or even permanently affected by poor sleep and sleep deprivation. This has massive consequences, after all, the missing sleep cannot simply be made up for.

Difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep

Consequences of sleep disorders

In most cases, reduced performance, concentration problems, irritability, overexcitement or restlessness occur as a result of difficulty falling asleep or sleeping through the night. Not infrequently, there are also negative effects on breathing, heartbeat, blood pressure or hormone balance.

Influence factor lifestyle

Experience shows it again and again: falling asleep and staying asleep are very closely linked to our lifestyle habits. For example, the consumption of stimulants such as caffeine, nicotine or alcohol, but also a lack of exercise or unhealthy eating habits can severely impair our sleep. However, the most important causes of poor sleep are stress and nervousness caused by overstimulation. Both lead to the fact that we can hardly switch off. The carousel of thoughts then spins all night and a restful night’s sleep is out of the question.

If we want to improve the quality of our sleep, it is therefore immensely important to reduce stress or to achieve better stress management and to become more resilient again. In the case of persistent sleep disorders, an examination of the sleeping place with regard to building biology or similar stresses may also be useful.

Natural remedies for good sleep

Both the famous vital mushroom Reishi and the medicinal plant Ashwagandha, which originates from Indian Ayurveda – also known in this country as “sleep berry” or “Indian ginseng” – are so-called adaptogens. Like all adaptogens, they are characterized by strengthening our organism, giving it more energy and vitality and improving our resistance to stress. In particular, the combination of Reishi and Ashwagandha thus promotes healthy sleep and a balanced sleep-wake rhythm.
